WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, is one of the latest aesthetic innovations in skin rejuvenation in recent years.

As we age, the skin produces less collagen and elastin, which contributes to wrinkles and other signs of aging. Collagen and elastin are essential proteins that keep the skin firm, smooth, and youthful. Microneedling is a safe, effective, and minimally invasive treatment to improve the overall quality, vibrancy, and texture of the skin to give the face and body a more youthful appearance.

HOW DOES MICRONEEDLING WORK?

Microneedling works to increase the production of collagen, elastin, and other healing factors to help tighten, lift, and smooth the skin. Multiple tiny sterile needles are used to create controlled micro-injuries on the first layer of skin. These micro-injuries minimally damage the skin to strategically trigger the body’s natural healing processes to produce more collagen and elastin. Microneedling can be performed on various areas of the skin including the face, neck, and body.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A MIRONEEDLING TREATMENT

Microneeding treatments are performed by Dr. Yoo’s Physician Associate who is highly knowledgeable and dedicated to help you improve your skincare needs. Before you begin your microneedling therapy, a thorough consultation is needed to discuss the procedure, your goals, and your expectations of the treatment.

During a microneedling procedure, the skin is gently cleansed and numbing cream is applied. A small sample of blood is drawn to make the solution. Once the skin is numbed, the solution is applied directly onto the skin as the treatment is being performed. The depth of the needle is adjusted depending on the treatment’s location. Microneedling itself takes approximately 15 minutes. The full procedure takes approximately 45 minutes – 1 hour to complete.

After the treatment, the skin may be red to pink, but will return to normal in 3-5 days, depending on the depth of the needles used. Patients typically report an immediate tightness of the skin after the procedure. Results are seen in 1-2 weeks, but may continue to improve over the following 6 months.
