Botox is a FDA approved treatment, made from botulinum toxin A. The toxin interferes with the nerve impulses in facial muscles that create wrinkles through repeated movement. When these impulses are blocked and the signal to fire is not received in the brain, the muscles relax, and the wrinkles are temporarily reduced. While Botox remains in effect, the muscles stay relaxed and the skin of the face has time to rest. This results in a smoother appearance of the skin.

In the last 10 years, over 11 million patients have used Botox to treat wrinkles on the forehead, crow’s feet, frown lines and other fine lines that are the result of repeated movements in the face and aging. Many patients choose to make Botox a regular treatment to maintain the softened appearance of fine lines, and wrinkles on the face. The entire treatment usually takes about 10 minutes and you will see the treatments begin to take effect in as little as 1 to 2 days, with maximum effect at 7-10 days. Patients may notice continued improvement for up to 30 days following treatment and these improvements typically stay with patients for 4 months, but results will vary depending on each patient’s body chemistry.
